The Ruling on Using Makeup/Nail Polish etc in Islaam.

The question on the permissibility/impermissibility of conventional makeup, nail polish, lipstick etc is one which is often discussed, but which causes a lot of problems for the masses who are left confused on its ruling.

The main problem with all these things is not the ingredients, or whether it is waterproof or not, but rather it is the fact that primarily it is Tashabbuh (imitation) of immoral Kuffaar.

Hadhrat `Abdullaah Ibn `Umar Radhiallaahu `Anhumaa said that Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “Whoever imitates a people then he is of them.” Sunan Abu Daawood.

The second problem is that the women who wear these things only apply it for the purpose of going out in public, where they inevitably will be seen by Ghayr Mahaarim males regardless of whether they intended to make a display of themselves or not.

Allaah Ta`aalaa says in Surah Al-Ahzaab, Aayah 33: “And remain in your homes, and do not display yourselves like the display of the days of ignorance…”

Thus by them doing so, they incur sin both upon themselves as well as the men who are tempted by them.

Putting aside all the other problems that comes along with the usage of makeup etc, if just these two issues are taken into consideration then it becomes clear to see that it is not permissible for a Muslim woman to use makeup and nail polish etc.

So in conclusion the issue is not whether there are Haraam ingredients in the nail polish, makeup etc, because even though all the ingredients may be Halaal, and it may even be washable under normal water thus washing away during Wudhoo and Ghusl, but these two factors of Tashabbuh and Tabarruj (displaying one’s self) will still be found, thereby causing it to be Haraam.

And Allaah Knows Best.

Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-`Asqalaani Rahimahullaah narrates that Jamaaluddeen Ibraaheem Ibn Muhammad At-Tayyibee said:

“One of the leaders of the Mongols became Christian, and was visited by a group of senior Christians and Mongols, when one of them (Christians) started belittling Nabi Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam, and there was a hunting dog tied up nearby, so when he started increasing his insults the dog jumped on him and scratched him but they managed to free him from it, so one of the people present said: “This (happened) because of what you said about Muhammad (Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam).”

He replied: “Not at all, rather this dog is arrogant, and it saw me pointing with my hand, so it thought that I wanted to hit it.”

So he returned to what he was saying, and increased (his insults), so the dog jumped on him again, seized his throat and ripped it out, and he died immediately.

Because of that, about 40,000 Mongols accepted Islaam.”

Ad-Durarul Kaaminah, Vol 3, Page 128-129. Printed by Dar Al-Jeel, Beirut.

Such is the love for Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam by dogs and other animals, that they cannot bear to have Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam insulted while they sit still and do nothing. While today people make all sorts of baatil statements such as “Leave them, Islaam believes in freedom of speech” and “They shouldn’t be killed for insults though” and other such nonsensical statements.

And what a blessed action it was of this dog, that as a result Allaah guided 40,000 people to Islaam.

So do not ever get mislead into thinking that by “turning the other cheek” you will be able to guide more people to Islaam, because it is Allaah who guides, not us.

May Allaah grant us all the understanding.

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

This has become a rather common problem amongst the laity today, where every tom john and harry who in reality knows nothing about anything, starts claiming that one should not follow a madhab, but should rather follow the Qur’aan and Sunnah directly, they claim beyond that still that the scholars are the ones that have said so.

The following video of Shaykh Fawzaan, who is one of the senior Salafi ghayr Muqallideen scholars of today, is in reply to that claim of the laymen.

The video link is: http://videos.videopress.com/YQ1z4tUG/the-attack-on-the-madhc3a2hib-and-the-forbidding-of-taqlc3aed-blind-following-of-today-al-fawzc3a2n_std.mp4

Naturally there are certain aspects on which we disagree with this video, but on the whole it adequately responds to that claim of the ghayr muqallid laypeople who advise people against following Madhaahib.

These laypeople are under the misconception that those statements and articles of the scholars that they came across which speaks of following the Qur’aan and Sunnah directly are in some way directed at them, whereas in reality it has nothing whatsoever to do with them.

Those statements were directed at `Ulamaa, not laypeople.

I have not come across a single ghayr muqallid scholar that advises the laypeople to mess with the deen by claiming to follow the Qur’aan and Sunnah directly, rather they obligate the layman to make taqleed, whether that taqleed is of a madhab or of a particular scholar is a different story, but they advocate taqleed upon the laypeople nonetheless.

May Allaah guide us all to the straight path.

20 Rakaats Taraweeh.

The issue of the amount of Rakaa`aat that Taraaweeh Salaah is has in recent times become a hot topic, that every year without fail we hear the same old arguments being propogated that 20 Rakaa`aat actually has not real basis and that the “real” Sunnah is to make 8 only, all these are baseless claims which have only surfaced now after more than a thousand years of scholars having consensus on 20, while these people would have us believe that none of this really took place.

And this debate always seems to crop up every year just before Ramadhaan starts.

For this reason I am posting a link to a book called “20 Rakaats Taraweeh“, wherein the author has systematically taken each claim of the modernists and thoroughly refuted with proof, and shows what exactly is the correct view in this regard.

So it is a book I would recommend to all.

Wallaahu A`lam.

Detailed description of Salaah with evidences for the Hanafi Madhab

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Often these days we hear people making ignorant claims about the Madhaahib, and the Hanafi Madhab in particular, that the A’immah did not have a basis for many of their rulings, and some rulings were based on weak or even fabricated narrations and other such false accusations.

Because of this, some `Ulamaa had taken it upon themselves to shed some light on just one issue which is possibly the most commonly spoken about, and that is Salaah.

What follows are three books written in english on the subject.

1: The Salah of a Believer by Shaykh Riyadhul Haq – Download as PDF.

This book mentions each posture of salaah alongside the ahaadeeth which are reported concerning it, as well as the authenticity level of each narration according to the Muhadditheen.

2: Fiqh al-Imam by Mufti Abdur Rahman Mangera – Download as PDF.

This book deals with each aspect of the salaah, focusing more on the understanding of the Ahaadeeth which have been narrated regarding it.

3: Authenticity of Salah by Shaykh Muhammad Ilyas Faisal – Download as PDF.

This is a short book which deals with salaah limiting it just to the ahaadeeth for the sake of brevity.

All in all these three books are sufficient for anyone to see the amount of research and effort that the `Ulamaa had done when they gave a ruling on any particular matter.

May Allaah grant us all the understanding.

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

One of the most common misconceptions people have today is that none but the Khaleefah has the right to execute a person that insults Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam, and such a misconception is to be expected when one sees the amount of ignorant people speaking on behalf of the deen, and evil scholars that try to change the deen from its original teachings to be a watered down version that the kuffaar will be happy with.

The reality is that whoever is capable of taking revenge upon the one that insults Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam then he has the right to do so, regardless of whether it’s in a Muslim or kaafir country, because there is no treaty and security given to a person that insults Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam.

Imaam Ibn Taymiyyah Rahimahullaah says in his magnificent Kitaab “As-Saarim Al-Maslool `Alaa Shaatimir Rasool” (The Unsheathed Sword Upon the one that Insults the Rasool Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam) concerning a person who kills the one that insults Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam before even giving the Khaleefah a chance to execute him:

“The most that can be said about that is that he is transgressing the position of the ruler, and the ruler may pardon the one who carried out a hadd punishment that must be carried out without referring the matter to him.

Although this was a Hadd punishment, it also comes under the heading of killing a Harbi (a kaafir in a state of war against Islaam) that needs to be obligatory killed, and it is permissible for anyone to kill a harbi. And upon this is carried the statement of (Hadhrat) Ibn `Umar Radhiallaahu `Anhu when he was told about a monk that insulted Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam, he said: “If I heard him, I would kill him.”

Similar things happened at the time of Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam such as the hypocrite who was killed by (Hadhrat) `Umar Radhiallaahu `Anhu without the permission of Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam, when the hypocrite did not agree with the ruling of Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam, then (a verse of the) Qur’aan was revealed approving that action. And there was the daughter of Marwaan who was killed by that man, and Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam called him the supporter of Allaah and His Rasool (Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam). That is because the one whose execution becomes necessary because of his plot to corrupt the religion is not like one who is executed because of a sin like adultery and the like.”

And Allaah knows best.
