Is there any relation between the animal you slaughter on eid and the bridge that will lead you to Jannah on the last day?
Is there any relation to the animal you sacrifice on eid and the bridge that will lead you to Jannah on the last day?
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.
Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:
This belief is based on a narration that Imaam Ad-Daylami Rahimahullaah reports in Musnad Al-Firdaws which says: “Treat your sacrificial animals well, for they will be your mounts upon the bridge (over Jahannam).”[i]
However this narration, with all its different wordings, has been classified by the Muhadditheen as very weak.
Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-`Asqalaani Rahimahullaah says in At-Talkhees Al-Habeer: “I do not regard it (as authentic).” [ii]
Imaam Ibn Hajar Rahimahullaah goes on to state that Imaam Ibn Salaah Rahimahullaah said: “This Hadeeth is not known nor is it established according to our knowledge.” [iii]
Imaam Al-`Ajlooni Rahimahullaah says in Kashful Khafaa: “Ad-Daylami reports it with a very weak chain.” [iv]
Imaam Al-Munaawi Rahimahullaah says in At-Tayseer Bi Sharhil Jaami`is Sagheer: “It is weak by consensus.” [v]
That is as far as using the sacrificial animals as mounts over the Siraat goes.
However there is an authentic Hadeeth which is very lengthy in the Musnad of Imaam Ahmad Rahimahullaah which mentions how people will cross the Siraat, it says: “The people will be brought before the bridge of Jahannam, it has broad hooks and barbs which will hook the people.” Then Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “So some people will cross it as fast as lightning, others like the wind, some like a fast horse, some will run, some will walk, some will crawl on their knees, and some will crawl on their stomachs.” [vi]
And Allaah knows best.
