The one who guides to good will be rewarded equally

Question:

Is this Hadith Authentic??
“The one who guides to good will be rewarded equally”…..

Answer:

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:

The Hadeeth is authentic. It is reported in Saheeh Muslim, Sunan Abu Daawood, Sunan At-Timirdhi and many others with slight changes in its wording.

The narration of Saheeh Muslim is as follows:

Hadhrat Abu Mas`ood Al-Ansaari Radhiallaahu `Anhu narrates that a man came to Nabi Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam and said: “My animal (which was my transport) has died, so give me some transport.” So he (Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam) replied: “I don’t have any.” A man said: “O Messenger of Allaah (Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam), I will guide him to someone who will give him transport.” So Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “The one who guides someone to goodness, he will have the same reward as the one who does it (the actual good act).” [i]

Meaning that the Sahaabi who guided this man to someone who gave him an animal to ride, he got the same reward as the one who actually gave this man the animal.

Because the treasures and Magnanimity of Allaah are both limitless, so Allaah can reward both in full without detracting from the reward of the other in the least.

Filling the stomach with poetry?

Question:

“It is better for one of you to fill their stomach with pus than poetry.”

How authentic is this hadith?

Answer:

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:

The Hadeeth is authentic. The narration in question is from Sunan At-Tirmidhi:

Hadhrat Sa`d Ibn Abi Waqqaas Radhiallaahu `Anhu narrates that Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “It is better for one of you to have his stomach filled with pus rather than filling it with poetry.” [i]

It is also reported in Saheeh Al-Bukhaari, Saheeh Muslim, Sunan Abu Daawood and many others, with a slight difference in wording.

This Hadeeth is not a blanket condemnation of all poetry; rather it’s a specific condemnation.

The condemnation applies firstly to pointless poetry (and when we say poetry then naturally Anaasheed are included as well) it then extends from there even to good poetry when a person immerses himself in it to the extent that he ends up spending more time on poetry than remembering Allaah, studying the Deen or reciting the Qur’aan.

There are many Islaamic books written in poetic form, be it on the science of Hadeeth like Al-Manzhoomatul Bayqooniyyah, or Tajweed like Al-Muqaddimatul Jazariyyah etc, such poems are fine because the purpose of it is to learn the Deen, the poem is just there as a support to make the memorisation easier.

Imaam As-Suyooti Rahimahullaah says in Ad-Deebaaj `Alaa Saheeh Muslim Ibn Hajjaaj commenting on this Hadeeth: “What is meant here is that a person spends most of his time on poetry, it seizes him to such a degree that it preoccupies him from the Qur’aan, the Islaamic sciences and the remembrance of Allaah.” [ii]

Putting this in a modern light we can say; It is permissible to listen to Anaasheed, however if a person only spends his time listening to Anaasheed and doesn’t take out the time for Dhikrullaah and recitation of the Qur’aan and other Deeni work, then such a person would fall under the purview of this Hadeeth

If you deny me before man, I will deny you on the day of Judgement

Question:

Do u have a refrence for the hadith “If you deny me before man,I will deny youon thedayof Judgement”?

Answer:

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:

This is not a Hadeeth, but rather it is a lie attributed to Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam which can be found in many chain messages.

We must always keep very firmly in mind the Hadeeth of Hadhrat Salamah Radhiallaahu `Anhu who narrated that Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “Whoever attributes something to me which I have not said, then let him prepare his abode in the fire (of hell).” – Authentic, from Saheeh Al-Bukhaari. [i]

So to attribute lies to Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam is a very serious issue.

In any case, this statement is actually from the bible. It says in Matthew 10:33: But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven. [ii]

So it is a Christian bible statement, and not a Hadeeth of Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam.

I and Abu Bakr are created from the same dust

Question:

Need some help pls someone asked for the references of this hadith ” I صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ and abu bakr رضي الله عنه are created from the same dust”.

Answer:

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:

There are a few narrations all having slight changes in the wording, some mentioning just Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam and Hadhrat Abu Bakr Radhiallaahu `Anhu, while others mention Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam, Hadhrat Abu Bakr and Hadhrat `Umar Radhiallaahu `Anhumaa. However none of the narrations are authentic.

Imaam Ad-Daylami Rahimahullaah reports in his Musnadul Firdows from Hadhrat Anas Radhiallaahu `Anhu that Rasooolullaah Sallallaahu`Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “Every newborn which is born has (some) sand from which it was created and into which it will be buried, and indeed I and Abu Bakr were created from the same sand, from it we were created and into it we shall be buried.” [i]

Imaam Ash-Shawkaani Rahimahullaah reports in Al-Fawaa’idul Majmoo`ah Fil Ahaadeethil Mawdhoo`ah that Imaam Ibn `Adi Rahimahullaah narrates from Hadhrat Anas Radhiallaahu `Anhu who said that Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “Whoever fabricates a lie upon Allaah `Azza Wa Jall is to be killed and should not asked to repent, and whoever insults me should be killed and not asked to repent, and whoever insults Abu Bakr and `Umar should be killed and not asked to repent, and whoever insults `Uthmaan should be lashed, and whoever insults `Ali should be lashed.” He (Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam) said: “Because Allaah created me and the two of them (Hadhrat Abu Bakr and Hadhrat `Umar) from the same sand, and in it (that sand) we shall be buried.” Imaam Ash-Shawkaani Rahimahullaah then comments and says: “It is fabricated.” [ii]

Imaam Adh-Dhahabi Rahimahullaah reports a similar narration in Meezaaul I`tidaal and then says: “This is a fabricated Hadeeth.” [iii]

Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-`Asqalaani Rahimahullaah reports the same narration in Lisaanul Meezaan and says: “This is a fabricated Hadeeth.” [iv]

Whoever accepts me as a master Ali is his master.

Question:

Kindly verify for me the following statements “Whoever accepts me as a master Ali is his master” is the statements a Hadeeth or an proverb that’s unauthentic?

Answer:

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:

This is an authentic Hadeeth which is found in many of the books of Hadeeth such as Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Saheeh Ibn Hibbaan, Sunan An-Nasaa’ee, Sunan Ibn Maajah, the Musnad of Imaam Ahmad Rahimahullaah, Al-Mustadrak of Imaam Al-Haakim Rahimahullaah etc.

Now while many of the narrations contain a weakness or two in their chains, there are many others that are quite authentic.

Imaam At-Tirmidhi Rahimahullaah reports in his Sunan: “Hadhrat Abu Sareehah or Hadhrat Zayd Ibn Arqam Radhiallaahu `Anhumaa said that Nabi Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam Said: “Whoever I am a Mawla (master/supporter) for, then `Ali (Radhiallaahu `Anhu) is his Mawla.” [i]

Imaam Ahmad Rahimahullaah reports in his Musnad: “Sa`eed Ibn Wahb said: “`Ali (Radhiallaahu `Anhu) beseeched the people, so five or six of the Companions of Nabi Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam stood up and bore witness that Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “Whoever I am a master Mawla (master/supporter) for, then `Ali (Radhiallaahu `Anhu) is his Mawla.” [ii]

Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-`Asqalaany Rahimahullaah says in Fathul Baari:

“As for the Hadeeth: “Whoever I am a Mawla (master/supporter) for, then `Ali (Radhiallaahu `Anhu) is his Mawla.” It has been reported by At-Tirmidhi and An-Nasaa’ee and it has many chains (of narration), Ibn `Uqdah has encompassed them in a specialised book, and many of its chains are Saheeh (authentic) and Hasan (sound).” [iii]

Imaam Al-`Ajloony Rahimahullaah says in Kashful Khafaa:

“Whoever I am a Mawla (master/supporter) for, then `Ali (Radhiallaahu `Anhu) is his Mawla.” Reported by At-Tabaraani and Ahmad and Ad-Dhiyaa (Al-Maqdisee) in Al-Mukhtaarah from Zayd Ibn Arqam, `Alii and thirty of the Sahaabah with the (additional) words “O Allaah befriend those who befriend him, and be the enemy of those who take him as an enemy.” So the Hadeeth is (either) Mutawaatir (related through continuous mass transmission) or Mash’hoor (well known).” [iv]

So the Hadeeth is authentic and the problem lies not in the Hadeeth itself, the problem lies in people like the shia who try to misinterpret this Hadeeth to suit their false beliefs, whereby they try to raise Hadhrat `Ali Radhiallaahu `Anhu just about to the level of a Nabi, and claim that Hadhrat `Ali Radhiallaahu `Anhu has more virtue than Hadhrat Abu Bakr Radhiallaahu `Anhu and that the Khilaafah actually belonged to him etc, but these are all false lies.

In fact on the point of the virtue of Hadhrat Abu Bakr Radhiallaahu `Anhu over Hadhrat `Ali Radhiallaahu `Anhu and the other Sahaabah, Imaam Ibn Taymiyyah Rahimahullaah has a detailed discussion regarding it in his Al-Fataawaa Al-Kubraa, and he mentions therein that there is Ijmaa` (consensus) on the fact that Hadhrat Abu Bakr Radhiallaahu `Anhu is the most virtuous, then Hadhrat `Umar Radhiallaahu `Anhu, then Hadhrat `Uthmaan Radhiallaahu `Anhu, then Hadhrat `Ali Radhiallaahu `Anhu.

Imaam Ibn Taymiyyah Rahimahullaah says: “All praise is due to Allaah, as for the virtue of Abu Bakr and `Umar over `Uthmaan and `Ali, then this is something which is agreed upon by the Muslim scholars who are well known for their leadership in knowledge and piety, from the Sahaabah and the Taabi`een and those who followed them, and it is the belief of (Imaam) Maalik and the people of Madeenah, and of Layth Ibn Sa`d and the people of Egypt, and of Al-Awzaa`ee and the people of the Levant, and of Sufyaan Ath-Thawri, Abu Haneefah, Hammaad Ibn Zayd, Hammaad Ibn Salamah and their likenesses from the people of `Iraaq.

It is (also) the belief of (Imaam) Ash-Shaafi`i, (Imaam) Ahmad, Is’haaq (Ibn Raahawayh), and Abu `Ubayd and others besides them from the scholars of Islaam who have a truthful tongue for the Ummah.

And (Imaam) Maalik has narrated consensus from the people of Madeenah on that and said: “I have not found anyone that I follow that doubts the precedence of Abu Bakr and `Umar (Radhiallaahu `Anhum).” [v]

Likewise whatever other claims the shia try to make using this Hadeeth as proof, then it is just as far removed from the reality.

And Allaah knows best.

Does a muazzin get the sawaab of 40 million prophets?

Question:

Salaam. I read in a book that a muazzin gets the sawaab of 40 million prophets, is this true?

Answer:

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:

This is a fabrication and not the words of Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam.

The full text of the narration is as follows:

Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah and Hadhrat `Abdullaah Ibn `Abbaas Radhiallaahu `Anhumaa said:

“Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam delivered a sermon to us and said: “Whoever takes on the duty of calling the Adhaan from a Masjid of the Masaajid of Allaah Ta`aalaa, seeking thereby the pleasure of Allaah `Azza Wa Jall, Allaah Ta`aalaa will grant him the reward of forty million Ambiyaa, ad forty million Siddeeqeen, and forty million martyrs, and forty million nations will enter into his intercession, and (he will be able to intercede for) forty million people from each nation, and for him shall be in every portion of the Jannaat (Paradises) forty million abodes, in each abode forty million houses, in each house forty million beds, on each bed (he shall have) a wife from the Hoorul `Een, the spaciousness of each house shall be forty million times the size of the earth, in front of each wife will be forty million servants, in each house there shall be forty million table spreads, each table spread shall have forty million plates, each plate having forty million types (of food), if all of man and jinn were to take up lodgings in the smallest of the houses it would be spacious enough for them for what they desire with regards to food, drink, clothing, perfume, fruit, types of masterpieces and exquisite items, jewellery and garments, each house has sufficiently enough of these things (to not require anything) from the next house.

And when the Mu’adhhin says: “I bear witness that there is no God but Allaah”, seventy million angels surround him, each one of them sending salutations upon him and seeking forgiveness for him, and he will be in the shadow of the Mercy of Allaah `Azza Wa Jall until he completes (the Adhaan), and his reward will be written by forty million angels then they will ascend with it to Allaah Ta`aalaa.”- Reported in Bughyatul Baahith `An Zawaa’idi Musnadil Haarith. [i]

Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-`Asqalaany Rahimahullaah reports this narration in Al-Mataalibul `Aaliyah Bi Zawaa’idil Masaaneedith Thamaaniyah and follows it up by saying:

“This is a fabrication which has been made up by Maysarah Ibn `Abdi Rabbihi, May Allaah disfigure him for what he has fabricated.” [ii]

So in short, it is something which people have made up and falsely attributed it to Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam, but it is not the words of Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam.

Questions on the Mahdi

Question:

salam

a brother said the following:

“There is some debate amongst the scholars regarding the authenticity of many of the ahadith of the Mahdi and the events of the end of time. Some were very strict, and declared most of them weak, and others were a bit more easy.

And it is a bit complicated too. For instance, there might be a certain hadith which is weak, however on closer examination one will find that it is backed up by other texts, which might raise its level of authenticity. Also, the reason for its weakness has to be looked in to, as there is a difference between weakness on account of a narrator’s memory, for example, and weakness on account of a narrator being accused of lying etc.

Also, many of the texts regarding the fitan [trials] and events of the end of time are mawquf, meaning that it is the saying of a Sahabi, or munqati’ meaning the saying of a Tabi’i. This generally makes the text weak, however other factors have to be taken into account too, such as the fact that these things are usually not said according ot personal opinion, as they are matters of the “ghayb” or unseen, therefore they must have go tit from the Prophet [sallallahu ‘alayhi wa-sallam], thus giving them the ruling of being marfu’.

HOWEVER some of the Sahabah were known to have taken from the Isra’iliyyat, and at times it is hard to know if that Sahabi has told his report from the Prophet [sallallahu ‘alayhi wa-sallam] or the books of the Ahl al-Kitab [al-Isra’iliyyat].

So as you can see, it is quite complicated…..”

***

[1]Is it a correct overview?

[2]To what extent were Israiliyyat used by the noble and blessed Sahabah and Taba’een radiullahu anhum and subsequent generations,
(i) to do with end of times,
(ii) on issuses of Aqida, and actions such as Salah and other aspects of Islam?
(iii) and in other matters in general?
(iv) was it quite often?

[3]Are we able to distinguish these narrations from them and know for sure, that which the Best of creation salAllahu alayhi wa ala alihi wa sahbihi wa salam, guided us to?

[4] Are the Ahadith al-Sharif with regard to the description of sayyiduna Imam al-Mahdi alayhi salam sahih, for eg.,

(i)narrations that mention his name and the fact that he will be from the family of sayyiduna Imam al-Hasan alayhisalam?
(ii)and in general?
(iii)Also to do with the fitan before and sayyiduna Imam al-Mahdi alayhisalam?

[5] How can we make sense of the time we are living in, and that which is to come? i mean, the end of times, as the descriptions comes to us about the end of times, are hard to place in these times, i mean,
recently i heard that china was going to build seventy more airports in its country and hence the technological advancement etc., the landscape and even individuals, it is difficult to contextualise what we have recieved of the narrations about the fitans in the present and future the way the world is going?
Could you explain, and add the missing knowledge to my understanding, so that i may be able to comprehend and be at ease?

Answer:

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:

It is correct to a degree in much of what it says yes.
The majority of the Sahaabah Radhiallaahu `Anhum did not pay much attention to the narrations of the Ahlul Kitaab (Jews and Christians), however some Sahaabah Radhiallaahu `Anhum did narrate certain things from them, and it’s usually quite clear whether it’s taken from Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam or from the Ahlul Kitaab.

These narrations were only ever mentioned when it does not conflict with the Sharee`ah, and when the Sharee`ah is silent on certain topics, such as the stories of the Anbiyaa `Alayhimus Salaam etc.

The narrations regarding the Mahdi are authentic, to the extent that Imaam Abul Hasan Al-Aaburiyy Rahimahullaah says in Manaaqibush Shaafi`i: “The narrations regarding the Mahdi have reached the level of Mutawaatir (due to the amount of narrations from Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam), that he is from the family of Nabi Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam, and he will rule for seven years, and he will fill the earth with justice, and he will go out with `Eesaa Ibn Maryam `Alayhimas Salaam and aid him in killing the Dajjaal at the entrance of Ludd in Palestine, and he shall lead this Ummah in Salaah, and `Eesaa `Alayhis Salaam will perform Salaah behind him.” [i]

Imaam Ibn Taymiyyah Rahimahullaah says in Minhaajus Sunnah: “Indeed the Ahaadeeth which are used to prove the emergence of the Mahdi are authentic Ahaadeeth, it has been narrated by Abu Daawood, At-Tirmidhi, Ahmad and others, from the Hadeeth of (Hadhrat `Abdullaah) Ibn Mas`ood (Radhiallaahu `Anhu) and others.” [ii]

The Hadeeth of Hadhrat `Abdullaah Ibn Mas`ood Radhiallaahu `Anhu that Imaam Ibn Taymiyyah Rahimahullaah refers to is:

Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “Even If only one day was left of the world, Allaah would lengthen that day until He sends therein a man from me – or my family -, his name will be like my name, and his father’s name will be my father’s name, he shall fill the earth with justice and fairness as it had been filled with oppression and tyranny.”Sunan Abu Daawood. [iii]

The description of how exactly the signs will occur, Allaah knows best. But what we do know is that the signs will definitely take place, the advancement of technology will not change that.

Nothing is difficult for Allaah. How many nations came and went in the past and not a shred remains of their empires? The Roman and Persian Empire were the most advanced superpowers of the ancient world, but nothing remains of them today.

As Muslims we should not become arrogant as the perished nations of before and think that we are powerful and advanced, Allaah informs us in the Qur’aan about the perished nations and says in Surah Fussilat Aayah 15-16: “As for (the people of) `Aad, they were arrogant on earth without a right and they said: ‘Who has more power than us?’ Did they not see that Allaah who created them was more powerful than them? But they were rejecting Our signs.

So We sent upon them a cold screaming wind during days of misfortune so that We may make them taste a disgraceful punishment in the life of this world, and the punishment of the hereafter is more disgracing, and they will not be helped.” [iv]

So it’s nothing for Allaah to destroy America, Britain, China, Russia and all the other so called superpowers of the world, and to destroy all forms of technology and return the world to how it was a thousand years ago. Or to let the signs take place as mentioned in the Ahaadeeth while all the technological advancements remain untouched.

Therefore it is possible that when the Ahaadeeth speaks about people riding horses at the end of times that those “horses” refers simply to transport, but there is nothing to prevent it from literally meaning “horses”, and the same applies to all the other signs.

And Allaah knows best.
