Is the bleeding immediately after a hysterectomy op regarded as nifaas or istihaadha
Is the bleeding immediately after a hysterectomy op regarded as nifaas or istihaadha?
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.
Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:
This bleeding will be considered as Istihaadhah, because it is an internal injury and does not have anything to do with childbirth.
Because the definition of the term “Nifaas” as stated by Imaam Al-Margheenaani Rahimahullaah in Al-Hidaayah is:
“An-Nifaas is that blood which exits after giving birth, because it (i.e. the word “nifaas”) is derived from the “breathing (tanaffus) of the womb with blood” or the “exiting of a soul (nafs) meaning a child”, or in the meaning of “blood”.
And the blood which is seen by a pregnant woman at the beginning of and during her giving birth before the exiting of the child is Istihaadhah.” [i]
So as long as there’s no child involved like in this case, it will simply be considered Istihaadhah, and not Nifaas.
And Allaah knows best.
