Why does passing wind break wudhoo
Wslm. Why does farting break wuzu that is associated with your hands, face, mouth, ears, nose, feet etc. What is the association between the two.
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.
Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:
Passing wind breaks Wudhoo because Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam has told us so.
Imaam Al-Bukhaari Rahimahullaah reports that Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “The Salaah of a person who is in a state of Hadath is not accepted until he performs Wudhoo.” A man from Hadhramawt asked: “O Abu Hurayrah (Radhiallaahu `Anhu), what is Hadath?” He replied: “Passing wind silently or audibly.” – Saheeh Al-Bukhaari. [i]
The same applies to all the other nullifiers of Wudhoo, after all, what does bleeding, sleeping, vomiting a mouthful or even going to toilet have to do with a person washing his face, hands and feet?
The reason why it breaks Wudhoo is not important for us to know, otherwise Allaah would have mentioned it in the Qur’aan. Our duty is just to obey the commands of Allaah and His Rasool Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam, and perform Wudhoo whether we understand the wisdom behind any law or not.
And Allaah knows best.
