Is there no Jihad until Imam Mahdi comes?
A man says that there is no jihad prior to the coming of imam mahdi. Is this view correct?
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.
Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:
That is an incorrect view and it is not permissible to believe that, as it is in direct conflict with the authentic Ahaadeeth of Rasooolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam.
Hadhrat Jaabir Ibn `Abdillaah Radhiallaahu `Anhu narrates that Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “There will always be a group from my Ummah fighting upon the truth, victorious until the day of resurrection. “ – Saheeh Muslim. [i]
Hadhrat Salamah Ibn Nufayl Al-Kindee Radhiallaahu `Anhu reports that he was sitting by Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam when a man came and said: “O Rasoolullaah (Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam) the people have tethered their horses, put down their weapons and are saying that there is no Jihaad, that the war has laid down its burdens (i.e. that it has ended). Then Rasoolullaah (Sallallaahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam) turned to him and said: They have lied. Jihaad has only just begun, and there will always be a group from my Ummah fighting on the truth, and Allaah will cause the hearts of some people to deviate, and use them (the deviates) as a means of sustenance (i.e. booty etc) for them (the Mujaahideen), until the Hour (Qiyaamah) and the Promise of Allaah comes.” – Sunan An-Nasaa’ee.[ii]
Jihaad was waged during the time of Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam, during the time of the Sahaabah Radhiallaahu `Anhum, during the time of the Taabi`een, and the generations that followed, up till this very day Jihaad is taking place, so when exactly did Jihaad stop for it to now restart with the coming of the Mahdi?
If anyone wants to make the claim that there is no Jihaad today, then let him bring forth his proof from Qur’aan and Sunnah.
And Allaah knows best.
