Ghusl in the shower

Question:

I would like to know if one can just perform the entire wusl in the shower. By just using the shower water and if this nullifies any part of the whusl. Eg pouring water 3 times over right shoulder etc. Does just turning in the shower complete ur whusl if the actions are meant as if you pouring the water. I have often seen old school people still taking a bucket and jug into shower with them. Clarify this. Are we doing something wrong.

Answer:

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:

Imaam Al-Margheenaanee Rahimahullaah says in Al-Hidaayah: “The compulsory actions of Ghusl are: Cleaning the mouth with water, cleaning the nose with water, and washing the entire body.” [i]

The purpose of pouring water is simply to ensure that the body is washed properly, but literally “pouring water” is not a condition for the validity of ghusl.

If a person pours water from a jug, stands under a shower or dives in the ocean, as long as his entire body is washed then he has fulfilled that obligatory action of ghusl.

Thus if a person turns thrice in the shower and his entire body is washed then he will have fulfilled the obligatory action of washing, and the Sunnah of washing thrice.

And Allaah knows best.

Qadhaa of Witr

Qadhaa of Witr

Question:

If one has to make qadha of esha salaah, does he have to read the 4 fardh and witr?

Answer:

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:

Yes, he has to make Qadhaa of both the Fardh and the Witr.

Hadhrat `Amr Ibn Al-Aas Radhiallaahu `Anhu delivered the Friday Khutbah and said, Abu Basrah (Radhiallaahu `Anhu) narrated to me that Nabi Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “Indeed Allaah has added for you a Salaah, and that is Witr, so perform it between (the times of) `Ishaa Salaah and Fajr Salaah.”Musnad of Imaam Ahmad Rahimahullaah. [i]

Based on the above Hadeeth Imaam Al-Margheenaanee Rahimahullaah says in Al-Hidaayah: “This is a command of compulsion (i.e. Waajib), therefore it is compulsory to perform Qadhaa of it according to consensus.”  [ii]

Dilation and Curettage

Question:

Salaams! How u? I have a friend that is pregnant but her health is not good so the dr says she must have a dnc is it permissible will she get a sin for it?

Answer:

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:

Abortion is not permissible in Islaam except in certain cases where there is fear of the mother losing her life etc, because it is akin to murder, Allaah says in Surah At-Takweer, Aayah 8-9: “And when the child that was buried alive is asked (on the day of Qiyaamah), for what sin was it killed?” [i]

If the woman in question has been advised by an upright pious Muslim doctor that she has no choice but to have this dilation and curettage abortion due to fear for her life, then it will be permissible for her to have such an abortion and she will not be sinful. But if it’s simply the word of a Kaafir doctor then it cannot be taken as they do not have the same principles as Muslims.

Communicating with people beyond the grave

Question:

Wslm. I would like to pose a question on Crossing Over. That is a MEDIUM communicating with people beyond the grave. Is it right for me to say it isn’t possible. What is the ruling. Annie Dewani according to the Argus has contacted a local psychic to call her parents. Wslm.

Answer:

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:

People who claim to be psychics are tricksters and charlatans, while some are satanists who deal with the Shayaateen and receive information from them, but definitely they are not contacting the dead.

Allaah says in Surah Faatir Aayah 22: “And you cannot make the inmates of the grave hear.” [i]

Nor do the dead contact the living.

Hadhrat Jaabir Ibn `Abdillaah Radhiallaahu `Anhu narrates that when Hadhrat `Abdullaah Ibn `Amr Radhiallaahu `Anhu (his father) was martyred on the day of Uhud, Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “O Jaabir, should I not inform you of what Allaah `Azza Wa Jall told your father?” I said: “Indeed.” He (Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “Allaah has not spoken to anyone but from behind a screen, but He spoke to your father openly.” He (Allaah) said: “O My servant, request anything from Me and I shall give it to you.” He (Hadhrat `Abdullaah Radhiallaahu `Anhu) said: “O my Lord, return me to life so that I can be killed for Your sake again.” He (Allaah) said: “The decision has already been passed by Me that none of them (people) shall return to it (the world).” He (Hadhrat `Abdullaah Radhiallaahu `Anhu) said: “O my Lord, inform those (who I have left) behind me.” Then Allaah `Azza Wa Jall revealed this verse in its entirety: “And do not think that those who are killed in the path of Allaah are dead…” [ii] [iii]

The same happened with the seventy Qurraa that were martyred.

These were the greatest of people after the Ambiyaa `Alayhimus Salaam yet they could not just make contact with the living as they wished, so how can the Kuffaar simply contact the living whenever they want?

When a person dies he is either a good Mu’min, and he finds himself in peace and tranquillity, or he’s evil, and he finds himself in pain and punishment. If anyone were to have the ability to interact with this world after death it would be the good people, but they cannot do so, so what still about evil people who neither has the time nor the ability to do anything.

And Allaah knows best.

I have been advised to Yoga as it’s the best method of Relaxation

Question:

Wslm. Because off my Panic Attacks and Blood Pressure Condition I have been advised to Yoga as it’s the best method of Relaxation. I am told by some sources that it Haraam. I would like you to give me an answer on that inshallah. Wslm.

Answer:

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:

Yoga is more than just a few “innocent” postures and exercises as many people think. Yoga finds its roots in Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism.

Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual discipline whose aim is to connect a person with the hindu false deities such as Vishnu, shiva etc depending on which hindu philosophical school they follow.

Yoga is mentioned by name many times in the hindu scriptures, such as the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads and the Mahabharata.

Every asana (posture) that exists in yoga has a religious purpose attached to it.

For example:

The Surya Namaskar, or sun salutation as it’s known in English, is a series of postures done to thank the sun.

Likewise the Chandra Namaskar, or moon salutation, is a series of postures done to thank the moon.

Swami Param of the Classical Yoga Hindu Academy commented on one of the asanas and said: “To think of it as mere physical movement is tantamount to saying that baptism is just an underwater exercise.”

The most famous asana, the Padmasana, or Lotus throne posture where one sits cross legged, is a very highly regarded posture in the aforementioned religions, hence why their deities are often depicted in that posture.

Even the Pranayama (breathing exercises) have religious connotations, because literally pranayama means the expansion and restraint of the life force, the purpose of pranayama is to awaken Kundalini (latent divine power), ultimately resulting in a person becoming one in consciousness with one of the false deities.

These are the most basic and commonly used postures.

So how can we term yoga as permissible?

Even the Christians question whether it’s acceptable for Christians to do yoga, because they can see how blatantly clear yoga is permeated with Hinduism.

So how can a Muslim who believes in Allaah involve himself in such things?

Allaah says in Surah Kaafiroon: “Say (O Muhammad Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam) O you disbelievers, I do not worship that which you worship, nor are you worshippers of what I worship, nor will I be a worshipper of what you worship, nor will you be worshippers of what I worship, for you is your religion and for me is my religion.” [i]

The Kuffaar have their means of relaxation and meditation, and we have ours. They have yoga and we have Salaah, recitation of the Qur’aan and Dhikr.

Allaah says in Surah Ra`d, Aayah 28: “Those who believe and whose hearts find peace in the remembrance of Allaah, indeed in the remembrance of Allaah do the hearts find peace.” [ii]

Hadhrat Anas Radhiallaahu `Anhu narrates that Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “Women and perfume have been made dear to me, and the coolness of my eyes has been placed in Salaah.”Sunan An-Nasaa’ee. [iii]

Is Sajdah Shukr permissible and is Wudhu necessary for it

Question:

Is sajdahh shukkr permissible? N is wudhu necessary for it

Answer:

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:

Sajdatush Shukr is proven from the Sunnah of Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam and the Sahaabah Radhiallaahu `Anhum.

Hadhrat Abu Bakrah Radhiallaahu `Anhu narrates: “(News of) a matter came to Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam that pleased him (Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam) so he (Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam) fell into prostration for Allaah.”Sunan At-Tirmidhi. [i]

Hadhrat `Abdur Rahmaan Ibn `Awf Radhiallaahu `Anhu narrates: “Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam went out towards the place where the Sadaqah was kept, entered it, faced towards the Qiblah and fell into prostration, and remained in prostration for a long time, until I thought that Allaah had taken his soul in it, so I came close and sat down, then he (Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam) raised his head and asked”: “Who is it?” I said: “`Abdur Rahmaan”. He (Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam) asked: “What’s wrong?” I said: “O Rasoolullaah (Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam) you performed such a prostration that I feared Allaah `Azza Wa Jall had taken your soul in it.” Then he (Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam) said: “Indeed Jibreel `Alayhis Salaam came to me and gave me glad tidings and said that verily Allaah `Azza Wa Jall said: “Whoever sends Salawaat (salutations) upon you I will send Salawaat upon him, and whoever sends Salaam (peace) upon you I will send Salaam upon him, so I fell into prostration to Allaah `Azza Wa Jall out of thankfulness.” – Musnad of Imaam Ahmad Rahimahullaah. [ii]

Zayd Ibn Aslam narrates from his father who said: “News of a victory from Ash-Shaam reached (Hadhrat) `Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab (Radhiallaahu `Anhu) so he made a sajdah of shukr.” Ta`zheemu Qadris salaah of Imaam Al-Marwazee Rahimahullaah. [iii]

In the Hadeeth which mentions the story of Hadhrat Ka`b Ibn Maalik Radhiallaahu `Anhu, Hadhrat Ka`b Radhiallaahu `Anhu says when the caller called out: “O Ka`b Ibn Maalik, glad tidings to you!” “I fell into prostration and knew that relief had come.”Saheeh Muslim. [iv]

It is mentioned in Al-Fataawaa Al-Hindiyyah: “It is Mustahabb (desirable) for a person to perform a sajdah out of thankfulness to Allaah Ta`aalaa facing the Qiblah, he will praise and glorify Allaah therein, then he will make Takbeer (i.e. say Allaahu Akbar) and lift up his head (from the floor) as is done in Sajdah Tialaawah.”  [v]

The conditions for the permissibility of Sajdatush shukr are the same as the conditions of Sajdah Tialaawah, which are the conditions for Salaah.

Imaam Ibn Maazah Rahimahullaah says in Al-Muheet Al-Burhaanee: “So we say the conditions for its validity are the conditions for the validity of Salaah; of one’s body being pure from minor and major ritual impurity, and one’s clothing being pure from impurities, and covering ones `Awrah (nakedness), and facing the Qiblah.” [vi]

Therefore it will not be valid if done without Wudhu.

And Allaah knows best.

Is it permissible to lead the janaazah prayer of a shia, and to make ghusl of a shia

Question:

Is it permissible to lead the janaaza prayer of a shia, and to make ghusul of a shia.jzkl

Answer:

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Alhamdulillaahi was salaatu was salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaahi wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa man waalaahu, wa ba`d:

It is not permissible to give Ghusl to a shia, nor to perform Janaazah Salaah for them, nor to attend their funerals, because they are not Muslim, and these things are only permitted for Muslims.

The shia follow a different religion to Islaam even if they claim to be of its people, the `Ulamaa throughout the ages have authored books exposing and explaining the Kufr of the Shia.

The shia have multiple facets of Kufr, each of which is enough to expel them from Islaam, such as their rejection and reviling of the Sahaabah Radhiallaahu `Anhum, their claim that parts of the Qur’aan is missing, their belief in the infallibility of the Imaams, their belief that their Imaams and some other people will come back to life after the coming of the shia mahdi to take revenge etc.

Moosaa Ibn Haaroon Rahimahullaah said:  I heard (Imaam) Al-Firyaabee Rahimahullaah being asked about a person who insults (Hadhrat) Abu Bakr Radhiallaahu `Anhu, so he replied: “(He is) A Kaafir.” Then the man asked “should (Janaazah) Salaah be read over him?” He replied: “No.” So I asked him: “What should be done with him when he says Laa Ilaaha Illallaah?” He replied: “Don’t touch him with your hands, but lift him with a piece of wood and cast him into his pit.” Reported in As-Sunnah of Imaam Abu Bakr Al-Khallaal Rahimahullaah. [i]

Imaam Al-Bukhaari Rahimahullaah says in Khalq Af`aalul `Ibaad: “I see no difference between performing Salaah behind a Jahmi (one of the early sects), and a Raafidhi (shia), and performing behind a Jew or a Christian. They should not be greeted, nor are they to be visited when they’re ill, nor are they to be married, nor should their testimony be accepted, nor should the animals they slaughter be eaten.” [ii]

It is mentioned in Al-Fataawaa Al-Hindiyyah: “Whoever denies the Imaamah (the legitimacy of being the Khaleefah) of (Hadhrat) Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq Radhiallaahu `Anhu then he is a Kaafir, some have said he’s an innovator and not a Kaafir, but the correct view is that he is a Kaafir.” [iii]

It is further stated in Al-Fataawaa Al-Hindiyyah: “It is compulsory to declare the Raafidhah as disbelievers due to them saying the dead will return to the world.” [iv]

Taqiyyah (lying) is part of the shia religion, so you may find some who claim that they do not hold these beliefs, to them we say as Moulana Yusuf Ludhianvi Rahimahullaah says in Aap Kay Masa’il Aur Un Ke Hal: “If anyone (shia) says that he does not believe this (kufr beliefs of the shia), then it is obligatory upon him to make known his denunciation of the religion (shiaism) that believes this, and to declare those who believe it as Kaafir. As long as he does not do this we will not accept his claim, and his claim (of not believing it) will be considered Taqiyyah.” [v]

Regarding Janaazah Salaah upon Kuffaar, Allaah says in Surah Tawbah, Aayah 84: “And do not ever perform Salaah upon any of them who dies, nor stand by their grave…” [vi]

So taking that into consideration it becomes clear that we may not make Ghusl of them, nor may we perform Salaah over them.

And Allaah knows best.
