All articles etc on this blog can be freely copied and distributed, for there is no copyrights in Islaam.
This blog is dedicated to the knowledge of Islaam.
Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said in a hadeeth reported in Al-Bukhaari: Talabul `ilmi fareedhatun `alaa kulli muslim… Which means: Seeking knowledge is compulsory upon every muslim.
But what is this ‘knowledge’ which Rasoolullaah Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam has made reference to?
It does not refer to wordly sciences (secular education in other words) as some people wrongly interpret it to mean, nor does it mean that every single thing related to Islaam is compusory to learn, rather there is an amount of islaamic knowledge which is compulsory upon every muslim to know.
It is compulsory for a person to know Allaah and His Messengers `Alayhimus Salaam etc, which is known as `Aqeedah (creed), it is also known as Fiqh al-Akbar (the greater fiqh) because it is the most important which a muslim has to know.
Sadly today people have abandoned learning `Aqeedah, with the result is that many muslims are ignorant of their Deen (religion), and their ignorance leads some of them to Kufr (disbelief).
For example it is compulsory for every muslim to know that there is nothing like Allaah “Laysa kamithlihi shay..”, but people who have not learnt `Aqeedah are unaware of that, so they believe wrong things like Allaah having physical limbs and sitting on the `Arsh (throne) etc, Na`oodhubillahi Min Dhaalik.
The other compulsory knowledge is the knowledge of the Ahkaam (laws) relating to our Deen and Dunya, which is known as Fiqh (jurisprudence), it’s also known as Fiqh al-Asghar (the lesser fiqh) because it is second in line to `Aqeedah.
Among the compulsory knowledge of Fiqh is the knowledge of Tahaarah (purification) and Salaah (prayer) and Sawm (fasting) etc, however it is not compulsory for a person to know the Ahkaam of Hajj (pilgrimage) for instance if he does not have the means to go for Hajj, but if he finds himself by the means and Hajj becomes compulsory upon him then it is compulsory for him to learn the Ahkaam of Hajj as well, the same will apply to Nikaah (marriage) and Talaaq (divorce) etc.
And Allaah Knows Best.
